Increase the life of Your dvd rom

Increase the life of Your dvd rom

This is an interesting one!!!

This is for those who watch movies on their computer's dvd rom drive!!!

There is a software called dvd idle pro which can really increase the life of your dvd drive. By using the Smart Read-ahead Cache, DVDIdle saves DVD data which will be played soon onto the hard disk cache or RAM cache, and then feeds it to DVD player.

This allows the DVD drive to rest.

For example:
a 6X-speed DVD drive will only work for 15 minutes when you are watching a 90 minutes DVD
movie.

here is the link: http://www.dvdidle.com/download/DVDIdlePro59.exe

Can't Log On to Windows XP

Can't Log On to Windows XP?

IMP:: Read carefully before implementing

If that's your only problem, then you probably have nothing to worry about. As long as you have your Windows XP CD, you can get back into your system using a simple but effective method made possible by a little known access hole in Windows XP.

This method is easy enough for newbies to follow – it doesn't require using the Recovery Console or any complicated commands. And it's free - I mention that because you can pay two hundred dollars for an emergency download of Winternals ERD with Locksmith which is a utility for unlocking lost Windows passwords. See here
http://www.winternals.com/products/repairandrecovery/locksmith.asp

ERD is an excellent multi purpose product, but you should know it is not a necessary one if you have a healthy system and your sole problem is the inability to logon to Windows due to a forgotten password. Not necessary because you can easily change or wipe out your Administrator password for free during a Windows XP Repair

Here's how with a step-by-step description of the initial Repair process included for newbie's.

1. Place your Windows XP CD in your cd-rom and start your computer (it's assumed here that your XP CD is bootable – as it should be - and that you have your bios set to boot from CD)

2. Keep your eye on the screen messages for booting to your cd Typically, it will be "Press any key to boot from cd"

3. Once you get in, the first screen will indicate that Setup is inspecting your system and loading files.

4. When you get to the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to Setup Windows now

5. The Licensing Agreement comes next - Press F8 to accept it.

6. The next screen is the Setup screen which gives you the option to do a Repair.

It should read something like "If one of the following Windows XP installations is damaged, Setup can try to repair it"

Use the up and down arrow keys to select your XP installation (if you only have one, it should already be selected) and press R to begin the Repair process.

7. Let the Repair run. Setup will now check your disks and then start copying files which can take several minutes.

8. Shortly after the Copying Files stage, you will be required to reboot. (this will happen automatically – you will see a progress bar stating "Your computer will reboot in 15 seconds"

9. During the reboot, do not make the mistake of "pressing any key" to boot from the CD again! Setup will resume automatically with the standard billboard screens and you will notice Installing Windows is highlighted.

10. Keep your eye on the lower left hand side of the screen and when you see the Installing Devices progress bar, press SHIFT + F10. This is the security hole! A command console will now open up giving you the potential for wide access to your system.

11. At the prompt, type xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xzxzxzxzxzxzxxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxz
xxzxzxzxzxzxzxxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxz
xzxzxzxzxzxzxxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzx
zxzxzxzxzxzxxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxz
xzxzxzxzxzxzxxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxz
xzxzxzxzxzxzxxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxzxz

I tested the above on Windows XP Pro with and without SP1 and also used this method in a real situation where someone could not remember their password and it worked like a charm to fix the problem. This security hole allows access to more than just user accounts. You can also access the Registry and Policy Editor, for example. And its gui access with mouse control. Of course, a Product Key will be needed to continue with the Repair after making the changes, but for anyone intent on gaining access to your system, this would be no problem.

And in case you are wondering, NO, you cannot cancel install after making the changes and expect to logon with your new password.

Cancelling will just result in Setup resuming at bootup and your changes will be lost.

Ok, now that your logon problem is fixed, you should make a point to prevent it from ever happening again by creating a Password Reset Disk. This is a floppy disk you can use in the event you ever forget your log on password. It allows you to set a new password.

Here's how to create one if your computer is NOT on a domain:

  • Go to the Control Panel and open up User Accounts.
  • Choose your account (under Pick An Account to Change) and under Related Tasks, click "Prevent a forgotten password".
  • This will initiate a wizard.
  • Click Next and then insert a blank formatted floppy disk into your A: drive.
  • Click Next and enter your logon password in the password box.
  • Click Next to begin the creation of your Password disk.
  • Once completed, label and save the disk to a safe place

How to Log on to your PC Using Your Password Reset Disk

Start your computer and at the logon screen, click your user name and leave the password box blank or just type in anything. This will bring up a Logon Failure box and you will then see the option to use your Password Reset disk to create a new password. Click it which will initiate the Password Reset wizard. Insert your password reset disk into your floppy drive and follow the wizard which will let you choose a new password to use for your account.

Note: If your computer is part of a domain, the procedure for creating a password disk is different.

See here for step by step instructions:

Make Your Win Xp Look-Like Win Vista

Make Your Win Xp Look-Like Win Vista
Disclaimer: USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK

Original Post by, Vishal Gupta

http://www.askvg.com/transform-your-windows-xp-in-windows-vista-without-any-customization-pack

We all know that Windows Vista has been released but its too costly to purchase anxd the requirements are also very high. The most interesting thing in Vista is its look. So I’m posting this tutorial to make our existing Windows XP to look-a-like Windows Vista.

There are lots of Vista Transformation packs available on net but I never use them bcoz they slow down the windows and also install a few 3rd party utilities . So I suggest its better to do all the things manual.

To make Win xp to look-a-like Vista, Following Are The Things Needed To Do That:-

Visual style (or theme)
Mouse Cursors
Windows Icons all in shell32.dll (replaced as in vista)
Boot screen
Login screen
Vista wallapapers
SoundsWindows
ExplorerProgress dialog box
Shutdown/log off dialog box
About Windows box
System Properties dialog box
Taskbar Icons
Vista drive status bar etc…

1. Vista Style:-
First thing which u should change in ur windows is theme.
Download The skin from Here(http://www.esnips.com/doc/d17e6a3a-d40e-4137-977e-819c83c075f8/Vista_styler_skin)
You may aslo want to use trensparent themes . There are many of them avaliable on the net. AND It requires Windowsblinds 5.5 Full Version!

2.Vista Mouse Cursors:-
Vista Cursors are really lovely…there are many ’Vista Cursors’ avaliable on the net, but the one i liked is Here(http://www.esnips.com/doc/b1657929-35f3-42f0-b78d-9c143976ac44/aero_cursors)
Here is How to Install It:-
a. Extract the archive to a temporary folder.
b. Right click the “Install.inf” file and click on “Install”
c. Choose the cursorset in the control panel mouse appletd. It appears as “Aero Cursors (Alphablended)”

3.Bootscreen:-
In Vista, Microsoft has removed the graphical boot screen and there is a minimal boot screen with just a progress bar.It Too Looks Nice

If u like it download it from here(http://www.esnips.com/doc/0f748bb4-8c32-4001-87dc-c57c3046d833/boot)

and also download Stardock Boot skin from Here http://www.esnips.com/doc/540205ff-0fbe-45a4-b0ff-e9070745fa69/bootskin_free).

You can also make your own boot screen using Tuneup Utilities. Its the Easiest Way to do it .

4.Login Screen:-

just download the logonui.exe file file from Here(http://www.esnips.com/doc/cc9dc360-a8a3-4282-9220-c1cb3299f5b6/logonui(2))

And replace it using replacer!!!! You may also require Vista User images(optional) Which u can download from from Here (http://www.esnips.com/doc/0c2068be-9426-4238-bbd7-b14ce2ef792f/Vista_User_Images)

5. Vista Sounds-:Vista sounds are really Cool.Download the whole pack from here(http://www.esnips.com/doc/8ef6186a-53b2-44fd-92b4-64cc22616b14/VistaSounds)

6. Vista Explorer:-
Vista Explorer is Really Cool. It Contains Back & Forward Buttons along with the Address bar & Searchbar and under it there is another toolbar containing useful links, like Tile icons, details, and many more things. But there is a 3rd party utility available called “Styler”, which can add the same toolbars in XP explorer tooDownload Styler from Here(http://www.crystalxp.net/galerie/en.id.551.html)

And now download the skin for styler from Here (http://www.esnips.com/doc/99ded214-dd73-4ab5-bc94-91427610c336/skin)
Now extract it and copy this skin to “%ProgramFiles%\Styler\TB\skins\Styler’s” directory and then apply it from the styler.

7. Vista Wallpapers:-
Vista Wallpapers are lovely …..download them from Here(http://www.esnips.com/doc/738ad48a-1a58-4955-a8cc-2b677378a284/vISTA_WALLPapERS)

8.Progress Dialog , Shutdown Dialog ,Run dialog ,System Icons and many more:-
1. Progress Dialog:-Vista progress dialog box is different from XP. But we can make our XP dialog box to look-a-like Vista one by using my favorite Resource Hacker.

Heres a look at it :-

For this:- Just open “%windir%\System32\Shell32.dll” file in Resource Hacker and then goto:
Dialog -> 1020 -> 1033
Now replace the existing code in right-side pane with the following code:

============================================================

1020 DIALOGEX 20, 20, 266, 108STYLE DS_FIXEDSYS DS_MODALFRAME DS_NOIDLEMSG WS_POPUP WS_CAPTION WS_SYSMENUCAPTION ""LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_USFONT 8, "MS SHELL DLG"{CONTROL "", 106, "SysAnimate32", ACS_AUTOPLAY ACS_TIMER WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE, 0, 0, 267, 25CONTROL "", 103, STATIC, SS_LEFTNOWORDWRAP SS_NOPREFIX WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE, 7, 34, 250, 10CONTROL "", 102, STATIC, SS_LEFTNOWORDWRAP SS_NOPREFIX WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE, 52, 88, 132, 10CONTROL "", 104, "msctls_progress32", WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE, 7, 58, 250, 14CONTROL "", 105, STATIC, SS_LEFT SS_NOPREFIX WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE, 7, 44, 250, 10CONTROL "", 106, STATIC, SS_GRAYFRAME WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE, 0, 76, 266, 1CONTROL "Stop", 2, BUTTON, BS_DEFPUSHBUTTON WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE, 200, 85, 56, 16CONTROL "Current file:", 2, STATIC, SS_LEFT WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE, 7, 88, 40, 10}

============================================================

Click on Compile Script button.

U’ll also have to replace existing AVIs in the file with new Vista ones.

Just download the Vista AVI from http://www.esnips.com/doc/39a17466-c779-42f6-b9b5-c660ec203c9f/a.b and after extracting the AVI from it, replace following AVIs in the Shell32.dll file with this one:

AVI -> 160 ->1033

AVI -> 161 ->1033

AVI -> 162 ->1033

AVI -> 163 ->1033

AVI -> 164 ->1033

Now save the file .

8.2. Shutdown/log off dialog box:-
Windows Vista doesnt hv any shutdown/logoff dialog box just like XP hv but XP default dialog box doesnt look good. So here I’ll tell u how to change it in XP ?with my Own customized dialog box.

Download required BMP files from Here (http://www.esnips.com/doc/a03b2f52-9e18-4d05-ac3a-6372c9f5f2d8/shutdown). Extract the file and u’ll get 4 BMPs with the name: a.bmp b.bmp c.bmp d.bmp

Now open “%windir%\System32\Shell32.dll” file in Resource Hacker and then replace following BITMAPs with the mentioned BMP files:
Now save the file and open %windir%\System32\msgina.dll file in Resource Hacker and then replace following BITMAPs with the mentioned BMP files:
Bitmap -> 20140 -> 1033 with a.bmp

Bitmap -> 20141 -> 1033 with b.bmp

Bitmap -> 20142 -> 1033 with a.bmp

Bitmap -> 20143 -> 1033 with b.bmp

Bitmap -> 20150 -> 1033 with d.bmp
Now save the file.
And if u want to change the text of the shutdown dialog (ie make it same as shown in the image)
Open %windir%\System32\msgina.dll file in Resource Hackerand go to:-
Dialog -> 20100 -> 1033 and in the right hand side repalce the default code with the following one :-

========================================================

20100 DIALOGEX 0, 0, 208, 122STYLE DS_SYSMODAL DS_SETFOREGROUND WS_POPUP WS_BORDERCAPTION ""LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_USFONT 8, "MS Shell Dlg"{CONTROL "Cancel", 2, BUTTON, BS_PUSHBUTTON WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE WS_TABSTOP, 155, 104, 42, 18CONTROL "Flag", 20101, STATIC, SS_OWNERDRAW WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE, 171, 3, 32, 26CONTROL "Bye Bye.", 20102, STATIC, SS_OWNERDRAW WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE, 7, 3, 149, 26CONTROL "&Wil B Back", 20104, BUTTON, BS_OWNERDRAW BS_NOTIFY WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE WS_TABSTOP, 36, 51, 22, 19CONTROL "T&ake Care", 20103, BUTTON, BS_OWNERDRAW BS_NOTIFY WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE WS_TABSTOP, 93, 51, 22, 19CONTROL "&Just Coming", 20105, BUTTON, BS_OWNERDRAW BS_NOTIFY WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE WS_TABSTOP, 150, 51, 22, 19CONTROL "&Hibernate", 20106, BUTTON, BS_PUSHBUTTON BS_NOTIFY WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE, 13, 104, 42, 18CONTROL "", 20108, STATIC, SS_OWNERDRAW WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE WS_DISABLED, 22, 73, 50, 8CONTROL "", 20107, STATIC, SS_OWNERDRAW WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE WS_DISABLED, 79, 73, 50, 8CONTROL "", 20109, STATIC, SS_OWNERDRAW WS_CHILD WS_VISIBLE WS_DISABLED, 136, 73, 50, 8

========================================================

Compile it and save it …

8.3.Run Dialog:-

open shell32.dll in resource Hacker n go to
Dialog->1003->1003

9.Vista Icons:-
There r lots of icon packs available on net, which can be used to change default XP icons with the Vista ones automatically. I’m posting a link to a iconpack which is the best :
http://www.joejoe.biz/joejoe/Download/VIP3_IP.ip
Just download it and then u can use Stardock Icon (http://www.esnips.com/doc/4b052842-f18f-49d8-a34d-16088a7a178e/iconpackager_public) to use it .

10.Taskbar Icons:-
Guys I Hv also modified My netshell File (which is reponsible for the taskbar icons) I hv made it Look Like Vista. Download the file from (http://www.esnips.com/doc/d6f51148-403e-42c4-b065-de71b34fa596/netshell) And Then Replace It With Replacer .
11.Vista Drive Status Bar:-
In Windows Vista there is a small horizontal progress bar is displayed under each drive icon showing the filled/remaining space in the drive. U can also do the same in XP by using a 3rd party utility uploaded . Just run the file and it’ll add the progress bar in each drive. Download it from http://rapidshare.com/files/32747874/aaaaaaaa.zip.html

12.Sidebar:-
Windows Vista also contains a Sidebar, which is displayed on right-side on desktop (by default and can be changed to be displayed at left-side). U can also use a sidebar in XP. Just download it fromhttp://www.thoosje.com/

P.s:-If u get error while saving the system files, then its happening bcoz of the WFP (Windows File Protection) service, which can be disabled using WFP Patcher or u can use Replacer to replace system files with my hacked ones.
You may Also Require Replacer To Replace the files Which U can download from http://www3.telus.net/_/replacer/Replacer.zip

Thats all for now guys. If u hv more suggestions then pls post them. I m waiting for ur comments.There r lots of other 3rd party utilities, like LClock, etc. but I’m not mentioning them here.

Comparing Windows XP and Windows 2000

Comparing Windows XP and Windows 2000

Windows 2000 and Windows XP are essentially the same operating system (known internally as Windows NT 5.0 and Windows NT 5.1, respectively.)

Microsoft has added a host of new features to both versions of Windows XP, but nothing that appears to be absolutely compelling for business users. One of the new features called "Fast User Switching" allows to to run two separate logged in sessions at once. This allows a user to do everyday work such as e-mail using a non-privileged user account, and then run an Administrative session at the same time without rebooting or resorting to the "Run As" command. This also allows you to quickly log onto any users workstation and make administrative changes without logging them off. The remote assistance feature of XP can also help reduce support costs by allowing your Help Desk staff to interact with a user's PC over the network. XP's built in ZIP compression support can also save your company a lot of money in licensing fees if you are currently using a third party utility such as WinZIP.

Windows 2000 benefits:

=> Windows 2000 has lower system requirements, and has a simpler interface (no "Styles" to mess with).
=> Windows 2000 is slightly less expensive, and has no product activation.
=> Windows 2000 has been out for a while, and most of the common problems and security holes have been uncovered and fixed.

Windows XP benefits:

=> Windows XP is somewhat faster than Windows 2000, assuming you have a fast processor and tons of memory (although it will run fine with a 300Mhz Pentium II and 128MB of RAM).

=> The new Windows XP interface is more cheerful and colorful than earlier versions, although the less-cartoony "Classic" interface can still be used if desired.

=> Windows XP has more bells and whistles, such as the Windows Movie Maker, built-in CD writer support, the Internet Connection Firewall, and Remote Desktop Connection.

=> Windows XP has better support for games and comes with more games than Windows 2000.

=> Windows XP is the latest OS - if you don't upgrade now, you'll probably end up migrating to XP eventually anyway, and we mere mortals can only take so many OS upgrades.

=> XP is less prone to crash than its previous versiond and 2000.

Unable to access folder after Windows reinstall : Access Denied

Cannot access folder after Windows reinstall

After reinstalling Windows XP, you are unable to access certain folders created using the previous installation. When you try to access them, you receive the message: "Folder is not accessible. Access is denied."

How to access folders or files if its showing errror : Access is denied

Solution:

This problem occurs when you try to access a folder created on a drive using the NTFS file system using a previous installation of Windows.

Even if you use the same login name and password under the new installation, the internally generated security ID is not the same, so Windows will not allow you access to the folder.

You must take ownership of the folder by carrying out the following steps.

for steps do mail me as these are very delicate isuews, i will surely assist you in that.

Change settings, turn features off or on, and alter the way Word behaves

How can I change settings, turn features off or on, and alter the way Word
behaves?

Most of these settings are on the Tools menu. The Options command will display a screen that contains several tabs where you can make all sorts of changes that affect Word's behavior. The Customize command allows you to change Word's menus and toolbars. The View menu has some options for changing the appearance of the Word screen.

The rest of the answers in the Word Annoyances section and in the Word Screen section cover a number of the various ways you can customize Word and alter its behavior.

How do I get Word to stop helping me type?
There are several places to look to turn off Word's various automatic features:
Choose AutoCorrect (or AutoCorrect Options) from the Tools menu, then click on the AutoCorrect tab.
Clear the check boxes for the AutoCorrect items that you want to disable.
Do the same for the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
On the AutoText tab, clear the Show AutoComplete tip check box.

Accessing Restricted Drives

Accessing Restricted Drives.

The problem with most system administrators is that they think that the users or Hackers too are stupid. Almost all system administrators use the Registry Trick (Explained Earlier) to hide all drives in My Computer. So in order to unhide or display all drives, simply delete that particular key.(Refer to beginning of Untold Secrets Section.)
Some systems have the floppy disk disabled through the BIOS. On those systems if the BIOS is protected, you may need to crack the BIOS password. (For that Refer to the Windows Hacking Chapter). Sometimes making drives readable (Removing R +) and then creating Shortcuts to them also helps us to get access to them. Further Changing your Operating System's Looks by editing .htt files

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell Icons. Now, on the right pane is a list of icons ( we found out that on some systems, Windows 98 especially, the right pane is blank. Don't worry, just add the value as required ). Find the value 29. Customizing the Right Click Context Menu of the Start Menu

Customizing the Right Click Context Menu of the Start Menu

When you right click on the start menu, only 3 options pop up:
Open, Explore, and Find. You can add your own programs to this pop up menu( which comes up when we right click on it.) Open Regedit and go to the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell Right click on the shell and create a new Sub Key (You can create a new SubKey by right clicking on the Shell Key and selecting New >
Key.). Type in the name of the application you want to add to the start menu. I want to add Notepad to the Start Menu and hence I name this new sub key, Notepad. Now right click on the new registry key that you just created and create yet another new key named Command. Enter the full path of the application, in this case Notepad in the default value of Command in the right
pane. So I Modify the value of the default string value and enter the full pathname of Notepad:
c:\wndows\notepad.exe.
Now press F5 to refresh. Now if you right click on the Start Button you will find a new addition to the Pop Up Menu called Notepad. Clicking on it will launch Notepad.
We can not only add but also remove the existing options in this pop up box. To delete the Find option, go to the following registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell\Find
Delete Find. DO NOT delete Open else you will not be able to open any folders in the Start Menu like Programs, Accessories etc. BMP Thumbnail As Icon You can actually change the default BMP icon to a thumbnail version of the actual BMP file. To do this simply go to
HKCU\Paint.Picture\Default. In the right pane change the value of default to %1. Please note however that this will slow down the display rate in explorer if there are too many BMP thumbnails to display. You can use other icons too, simply enter the pathname.To
restore back to the normal change the vale of default back to: C:\Progra~1\Access~1\MSPAINT.EXE,1.

20 things you didn't know about Windows XP

20 things you didn't know about Windows XP

You've read the reviews and digested the key feature enhancements and operational changes. Now it's time to delve a bit deeper and uncover some of Windows XP's secrets.

1. It boasts how long it can stay up. Whereas previous versions of Windows were coy about how long they went between boots, XP is positively proud of its stamina. Go to the Command Prompt in the Accessories menu from the All Programs start button option, and then type 'systeminfo'. The computer will produce a lot of useful info, including the uptime. If you want to keep these, type 'systeminfo > info.txt'. This creates a file called info.txt you can look at later with Notepad. (Professional Edition only).

unable to open attachments in Outlook Express

In Outlook Express, you may not be able to receive and open attachments if the Virus Protection feature for attachments is enabled. This option is enabled by default in Outlook Express. If you enable this option, Outlook Express uses the Internet Explorer 6 unsafe file list and the Confirm open after download setting in Folder Options to determine whether a file is safe. Any e-mail attachment with a file type reported as "unsafe" is blocked from being downloaded.

To use the Internet Explorer unsafe file list to filter e-mail attachments, please use these steps:

1. Start Outlook Express, and then on the Tools menu, click Options.
2. Click the Security tab, and then click to select the Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus check box under Virus Protection.

For a pictorial representation of these steps, please refer to the following web sites:

http://www.miliserv.net/miliserv/no_attachments_email.html

The Internet Explorer 6 unsafe file list includes any file types that may have script or code associated with them. To add additional file types to be blocked or remove file types that should not be blocked:

1. Click Start, point to Settings (or click Control Panel), and then click Control Panel (or switch to Classic View or View All Control Panel Options).
2. Double-click Folder Options.
3. On the File Types tab, click to select the file type that you want to block or allow, and then click Advanced. If the file type you want to add is not listed, perform the following steps:
a. Click New.
b. In the Create New Extension dialog box, type the file extension you want to add to the unsafe file list.
c. Click OK, and then click Advanced.
4. Click to place a check mark (block) or remove the check mark (allow) from the Confirm open after download check box.

NOTE: You cannot remove the check from Confirm open after download to allow some file types. For example, .exe files are in the default unsafe file list in Internet Explorer and cannot be allowed.

Please be informed that the attachment in this case may not really an attachment at all, merely a visual indication that there is more to the message than you are currently seeing, in particular all the HTML that provides the formatting of the message. You can open this virtual attachment in your browser to read the message in its original format, or you can just press ALT+SHIFT+H (equivalent to clicking Message as HTML on the View menu) to view the message in HTML format in the Outlook Express window.

If you prefer to read messages as they were sent instead of as plain text, please use these steps:

1. Click Options on the Tools menu, and click the Read tab.
2. Clear the Read all messages in plain text check box.

If you wish to save an attachment your local hard drive, you may follow the steps provided below:

1. Double-click the message whose attachment you want to save.
2. Right-click the attachment's icon and select Save As. The Save Attachment As window is displayed.
3. Select the file type, enter a filename, and select the directory in which you want to save the file.

Failure of tapisrv.exe or corrupted Telephon.ini

The tapisrv.exe service is used by your computer by the 'Dial up networking' feature and any other process that performs telephony related operations.
It is a background service that provides Windows Telephony (TAPI) Support in Windows 98 and Windows NT 4. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated. Issues with the TAPISRV might be caused by a corrupt Telephon.ini file.
If the Telephon.ini file in the Windows folder is missing or is damaged, you can create a new one by running the file Tapiini.exe.

If the Telephon.ini file in the Windows folder is missing or is damaged, you can create a new one by running the file Tapiini.exe. Tapiini.exe is located in the Windows\System folder. Before you run Tapiini.exe, rename the Telephon.ini file, if it exists.

To create a new Telephon.ini file:
1. Rename the Telephon.ini file (if it exists) in the Windows folder to Telephon.old. For information about how to rename a file, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type "renaming" (without quotation marks), and then double-click the "Renaming Files" topic.

Block unwanted e-mail messages in Outlook Express

Method1:

You can block messages from a particular sender or domain. The domain is the name that follows the @ symbol in an e-mail address. When you block a sender or domain, you do not receive any e-mail messages or news messages from that sender or domain in your Inbox folder or in the news messages that you read. When you receive messages from blocked senders, the e-mail messages are sent directly to your Deleted Items folder, and the newsgroup messages are not displayed.

To block messages from a sender or domain in Outlook Express, please use these steps:
1. In your Inbox folder or in the list of messages in a newsgroup, click the message from the sender that you want to block.
2. On the Message menu, click Block Sender.

If you wish to get more information about above process, please go to:
Article Title: How to Manage the Block Senders List in Outlook Express
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=267305

Method2:

Spam and unsolicited e-mails can be prevented to some extent from being received in Outlook Express by following the steps provided below:
1. Launch Outlook Express.
2. Highlight the offensive e-mail in the upper box by clicking on it.
3. Go to Menu Bar and select `Message`.
4. Click on `Block Sender`.
5. A window will appear telling you this address has been added to your blocked senders list, and asking if you would like to remove all messages from this sender from your current folder. Click "Yes".

You can also create rules to block unwanted e-mails by following the steps provided below:
1. Launch Outlook Express
2. Click on Tools -> Message Rules -> Mail.
3. When `Message Rules` dialog box is displayed, click on `New`.
4. Under step 1, Conditions, check the box for Where the Subject line contains specific words.
5. Under step 2, Actions, check the box for Move it to the specified folder.
6. Under step 3, Rule Description, check the box for contains specific words.
7. When prompted for a specific word or phrase, type the specific word or phrase that you wish to block and then, click Add. Click OK to close the dialog box.
8. Under step 3, Rule Description, click the link for specified folder.
9. Click the New Folder button. Type Filtered Spam for the folder name and then click OK. Click OK again to close the Move dialog box.
10. Under step 4, Name, enter a name for your rule and click OK.
11. The Message Rules dialog box will be displayed. Select the SPAM rule and then click the Move Up button to move this rule to the top of the list.
If you only want to apply this rule to new messages, click OK to close the dialog box. If you want to apply the rule to currently downloaded messages, check the box for the SPAM rule and click Apply Now.
12. Apply Mail Rules Now dialog box will be displayed. Click Apply Now.
13. Click Close.
14. Click OK.

After performing the steps above, if the issue is not resolved, please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to block these messages. Due to the flexibility of Internet and E-mail standards, Microsoft is unable to stop a particular individual from sending e-mails. However, your ISP is one point where these individuals can be blocked permanently and you will not receive any unsolicited e-mails.
